But unlike others out there, Steppin doesn’t just stop you from firing up Instagram, X, or whatever match-three game is currently holding too much of your time hostage; rather, it gives you the chance to earn app time with those apps back by walking around in the real world. Steppin is the most innovative and useful app blocker I’ve tried, since it doesn’t just prevent you from xvlust.com accessing the apps that waste your time. You can enable “grayscale” on your phone under the Accessibility section to make all apps grayed out and less colorful/eyecatching.

You’re encouraged to get your steps in and you can still enjoy the fun apps—in moderation. Enter Steppin, a completely free iPhone app that, like plenty of others, blocks access to distracting apps. None of that is particularly good for me, and watching it over and over stops me from getting things done in my real life, though I do really love those marshmallow videos. I love to be productive, I love to exercise, but I also love (or at least find myself) getting sucked into marathon Reels-bingeing sessions on Instagram.

Spending a couple of hours every day on your phone may seem like definitely the norm these days — and it probably is for most people! I’m looking forward to the day when, say, my minutes of reading or other forms of exercise count toward my banked minutes, depending on which direction English and his team take with future updates, but for now, I’m enjoying using it as-is. This could be a detriment for some, since you might not appreciate losing a streak because you’re configuring the settings in a way that works best for you, or in the case that you might even need unfettered access to an app for some reason. Most weeks, I end up with between 10 or 15 hours of banked, unused time before the reset hits. What I really like, though, is having to pre-determine how many minutes I give myself when accessing blocked apps.

Turn off notifications where you can

(If you ask me, a daily reset is for true self-improvement sickos and choosing to never reset it is the cheap way out. Weekly is the way to go!) When you use Steppin, you can trade your steps for minutes on your blocked apps at any time. I started using Steppin five months ago so I could write a review, but I ended up enjoying it so much that I’m now on a 158-day streak. Some folks even just delete their problem apps during the work day so they can at least concentrate on productivity during business hours. That gets tricky, of course, because accidents and emergencies do pop up, and you may want 24/7 instantaneous access to your phone.
